As a training organisation, we are committed to fostering inclusive access for learners who qualify for reasonable adjustments or special considerations during formal assessments. All adjustments must preserve the integrity of the evaluation process by ensuring that the assessment of skills, knowledge, understanding, and competence remains unaffected.
What is a Reasonable Adjustment?
A reasonable adjustment refers to any measure implemented to minimise the impact of a disability that places a learner at a significant disadvantage during an assessment. Such measures must uphold the validity and reliability of the assessment and should not provide an unfair advantage over other learners completing the same evaluation. Work submitted by learners receiving adjustments will be assessed according to the same standards applied to all learners.
How to Request an Adjustment
Learners are encouraged to notify us as early as possible if they require an adjustment. Supporting evidence, such as medical documentation or a professional educational assessment (e.g., for dyslexia), must accompany the request. These requests and supporting materials will be reviewed by our Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) team, which may consult the Awarding Organisation (AO), where applicable, to determine the feasibility and nature of the adjustment.
Adjustments are granted based on whether they are considered reasonable and practical. Factors influencing this decision include the specific circumstances of the learner, associated costs, effectiveness, and feasibility of the adjustment. Additionally, considerations such as maintaining competency standards and adhering to health and safety requirements are also taken into account.
Approval Process
Adjustments can only be implemented with prior approval from our IQA team. Our delivery and assessment teams are not authorised to apply adjustments independently. Decisions are made in line with strict guidelines and evidence requirements. Where necessary, we will seek guidance from the AO to ensure appropriate and informed decision-making regarding the suitability and application of an adjustment.
Key Principles for Applying Adjustments
When implementing an adjustment, we ensure the following principles are upheld:
• Certificates used to demonstrate an individual's competence accurately reflect their achievements.
• The assessment process remains rigorous and equitable.
• The activity is valid and aligned with national standards.
• Results are reliable and consistent.
• The adjustment is practical and feasible within the constraints of resources, facilities, and time.
Course Enrolment and Rejection Policy
An application for course enrolment will only be declined if:
1. The course content and delivery are such that the applicant cannot reasonably meet the core requirements of the course, and no viable solution can be found.
2. Enrolling the learner would pose a significant safety risk that cannot be adequately mitigated.
In cases where an application is rejected, we will recommend alternative courses or training opportunities and provide constructive feedback to the applicant. Applicants will not be refused enrolment based solely on the premise that superior facilities or support are available elsewhere.
