Pilates Self Care Saturday: Self Spring Clean

Let go of the soup, bread, and wine – make space for a lighter, fresher you.
Spring clean your habits – it’s time to toss out the winter comforts holding you back.

As spring begins to bloom around us, it's not just nature that's shifting. We feel it too. Just recently in a blog, I focused about how the change in time and season can affect us, our energy levels, our mood, and even our motivation. Spring is often associated with fresh starts and new intentions. At the heart of that is the idea of a spring clean.

But this time, we are not talking about wardrobes or cupboards. We are talking about you.

What would a personal spring clean look like? Not a detox or a dramatic overhaul, but a gentle reset. A moment to pause, assess, and let go of what no longer serves you, to make space for what will.

Food Lightening the Load

Over the winter months, I became a bit obsessed with soups. They were warming, comforting, and easy to throw together. But of course, it was not just the soup. It was the bread and butter that went with it. That is definitely part of my own spring clean. As the days get lighter and warmer, I am naturally drawn to fresher meals, with less stodge and more colour on the plate.

And let us be honest. Summer is on its way, and with that comes fewer layers. We become a little more visible, which makes this a great motivation point to check in with how we feel in our own skin. It is not about pressure. It is about feeling good when we are wearing less. That alone can be a nudge towards rebalancing food choices and tuning back in with our bodies.

Exercise Reconnecting with Your Own Pilates Practice

As Pilates teachers, we often prioritise our clients' needs, but now is a great moment to check in with your own. Could you reintroduce a regular mat session, experiment with a new Reformer flow, or even just spend a few minutes each day with a spine mobility sequence? A personal spring clean might simply mean putting yourself back on your own timetable. The more we care for our own movement, the better we can serve others.

Booze Rethinking the Routine

Spring is a natural time to assess habits. That evening glass of wine or weekend cocktail, do they still feel like a treat, or more of a routine? Maybe a few alcohol-free days each week could help you feel more energised, more clear-headed, and more connected to your body. Again, this is not about judgement. It is about noticing what feels good, and what does not.

Mind Clearing the Clutter

Mental clutter can weigh us down just as much as physical stuff. Old frustrations, guilt, comparison, or even client dynamics that drain you. What are you ready to let go of? A spring clean of the mind could look like journaling, meditation, or simply giving yourself permission to say no more often. Creating space mentally can be just as refreshing as anything physical.

This is your seasonal permission slip to start again.

Let this spring clean be kind, personal, and purposeful. It does not have to be perfect, just honest. You deserve space to grow, shift, and welcome the season ahead feeling clear, energised, and more you.
