When we think about wellness in Pilates we often focus on movement breath and posture but what about the role of nutrition and natural health remedies Today we are looking at something small but mighty something that has been used for centuries for its healing properties and yes it also happens to add delicious flavour to your cooking Garlic


Now you may have heard garlic called the Amish amoxicillin a term that comes from its natural antibacterial antiviral and antifungal properties The Amish known for their traditional way of life rely on nature’s pharmacy and garlic is a staple in their approach to health But can it really live up to its reputation


Garlic contains allicin a compound that has been studied for its ability to fight bacteria reduce inflammation and boost immunity It has been used to support respiratory health aid digestion and even help with heart health But before you start rubbing garlic all over yourself thinking it will replace antibiotics let’s get real It is a natural support not a substitute for medical treatment


In Pilates we are always looking at ways to support the body in the best way possible We strengthen we align we encourage movement that supports longevity and quality of life So why not apply the same thinking to our nutrition including the simple addition of garlic to our diet


But let’s be honest not everyone loves the idea of smelling like a Mediterranean kitchen after every meal So if the idea of munching raw garlic does not excite you there are ways to get the benefits without the breath Raw garlic is strongest in its healing properties but lightly cooking it or adding it to a warm lemon and honey drink can still offer some goodness If you are really committed there are even garlic supplements though we all know fresh is always best


So what is the Pilates connection Here is a fun thought Just as Pilates is all about working with the body to build strength and resilience garlic works with your system to keep it healthy Think of it as your internal Pilates session fighting off the bad bacteria and keeping everything in balance
