Hello, lovely Pilates teachers! Welcome to another edition of Self-Care Saturday. Today, I want to share something new we're trying out and invite you to join us in a little self-care challenge.


We've all heard about the importance of taking care of our skin, especially the delicate area under our eyes. As we gracefully age, it's essential to show some extra love to this sensitive skin. So, inspired by a social media trend (yes, I found this on social media, not an encyclopedia!), we're embarking on a castor oil challenge.

Why Castor Oil?

Castor oil is known for its incredible moisturising properties. It’s rich in fatty acids, which can help nourish and hydrate the skin. Some benefits of castor oil include:

  • Hydration: It helps lock in moisture, keeping your skin supple.

  • Anti-inflammatory properties: Can reduce puffiness and soothe the skin.

  • Antioxidants: Helps combat free radicals and reduces signs of ageing.


The Challenge

Both Malcolm and I are applying castor oil under our eyes to see if it really makes a difference. The skin under our eyes is the thinnest and most sensitive, so it needs extra TLC. Here's how you can join us:

  1. Get Some Castor Oil: Make sure it's 100% pure and cold-pressed for the best results.

  2. Patch Test: Apply a small amount on your inner wrist to ensure you don't have a reaction.

  3. Application: Gently dab a small amount under your eyes before bed.

  4. Consistency: Do this every night for two weeks.


What the Research Says

A quick look at the research shows promising signs for castor oil's benefits. Studies suggest that the fatty acids in castor oil can help reduce inflammation and hydrate the skin, making it a potential remedy for those under-eye bags.

However, while castor oil is generally safe, it's always best to perform a patch test to avoid any adverse reactions.
